Jeypore
Jeypore is supposed to be the largest town in the Koratpur district of the state of Orissa. It is one of the distinguished places of Orissa for the tourists, as well as a recognized business centre for traders. The place is also popular for the archaic palaces, buildings, temples and a blissful ambiance. The major attractions of the place are the three hill temples - the Jagannath Temple, Lord Shiva Temple and Swamy Vivekananda Temple on three various hilltops, the old Dakhin Kali temple at Puranagarh and the Gupteswar Temple located 60 kilometres from Jeypore, the imperial place of Vikram Dev Maharaja, the frothy Jagannath Sagar and the upper Kolab Dam. The place is blessed with rich natural resources like the Bauxite mines near Damanjodi, the Kolab and the Machkund Dams which generate hydroelectricity power for the state. It is indeed a pleasure for the vacationers to experience boating at Chandan Pokhari or the Sandal Pond. The place has a pleasant cultural amalgamation where people speak languages like Oriya, Hindi, Bengali and Telugu. Throughout the year the people of Jeypore celebrate various festivals with verve and fervour. However, Ghanta Parab festival attracts the major attention and mass. It is generally observed during the summer time. It is actually a kind of procession, Thakurani Yatra, followed by people in stupor, dancing to the dominant drum beats of the Dombo Baido, Singha Baido along with the Shehnai.
