Ratnagiri

Ratnagiri figures an imperative point of the Diamond Triangle comprising the Lalitgiri (in the present Cuttack district)-Udaygiri - Khandagiri group. Ratnagiri is presently located in the river basin of Jajpur district of Orissa. It is assumed to be one of the early Buddhist complexes which came into existence way back to the period of the Gupta ruler, Narasimha Gupta Baladitya, in the initial half of the sixth century AD. Latest excavations have revealed momentous archaeological evidences that endorse Ratnagiri as a principal Buddhist seat. The picturesque beauty of the surrounding augments among the grandiose vestiges of the vast brick Buddhist monastery, the patterned terracotta commemorative inscriptions with dharanis, the votive Stupas with features of mysticisms of the Vajrayana sect, the stone stupa slabs with inscriptions, a large stupa adjoining several miniature stupas and a stone temple.
