Champaran

The town of Champaran, also recognized as Champaranya, is the birthplace of the founder and reformer of the Vallabh community, Saint Vallabhacharya. Champaran houses two most important temples, one devoted to Saint Vallabhacharya and the other dedicated to Champakeshwara Mahadeva. These two temples are the hubs of fun, frolic and celebrations for the residents of the town. While the birth of the great saint is observed on the eleventh day of Baisakh (April - May), an annual fair or mela is also held in the Hindu month, Magh. Commemorating the birth of Mahaprabhu Vallabhacharya, this fair or the Champaran Mela highlights the splendid cultural lineage of the area and basically witnesses a large gathering of the Vaishnavas from every nook and corner of India. It is generally held in the months of January and February in a small town located 10 kilometres from Rajim.
